Identity on the Line (I-ON)

Information in English will follow further down.

Arbeidet startet opp 1. september 2019.

Identity on the Line (I-ON) – English

The Vest-Agder Museum is Lead Partner of «Identity on the Line (i-ON)», a large-scale cooperation project between six cultural history museums and one university in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, Slovenia and Croatia (2019-2023). The project is co-funded by Creative Europe, a European Union programme for the cultural and creative sectors.

Starting with similar approaches and using the same methods, each museum will work on one important migration process in its country by collecting and facilitating sensitive narratives in local exhibitions and uncovering challenges which have not been addressed before. The main findings and common features will be summarized and made available as a joint travel exhibition within Europe and a digital package for education.

The project will explore how experiences of migration have influenced three generations of people (the migrants themselves, their children and grandchildren) and their feelings of belonging and identity in different ways, in order to evoke the hope and potential for fellowship which the fluidity of identity may entail. Our priority is to reinforce the sense of belonging to a common European space to contemporary migrants, to those who have settled and their hosting communities.

Presentation of I-ON (video, English):

In addition to being the Lead Partner, the Vest-Agder Museum is also represented with an own subproject in I-ON, called «Keep it quiet! Family Secrets in the aftermath of WW2». This subproject is about the long-term consequences of the German occupation of Norway 1940 – 1945, and the museum has invited the local society to share personal narratives about interactions and incidents, and the long-term consequences of their occasional concealing. In addition, we have collected items, photographs, and objects related to the soldiers’ presence. Both narratives and objects will be used in a travel exhibition in 2021.
